Fort Wellington

RoJo was engaged with Parks Canada to work on the resource centre and museum at Fort Wellington, a National Historic Site in Prescott, Ontario. The project was a 6,000 square foot addition and a total renovation to the existing building. The building is the resource centre on the historical property that has offices, a reception area, public washrooms and a museum wing. The project had many unique building characteristics including curved foundation walls, structural steel and a museum-grade HVAC system that controlled the entire environment of the museum. The project sequencing consisted of building the foundation and concrete pad then moving a 16-metre gunboat artifact onto the slab and constructing the rest of the building around the artifact. The gunboat was protected in a large box and wrapped in waterproof membranes and covered in a flame-retardant blanket to ensure its’ safety. In the final stages RoJo worked with the client’s suppliers to install displays, plaques and pictures around the museum and reception area as required. Once completed RoJo was awarded an additional contract to complete the landscaping work around the fort and had it ready for their opening.
